The Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish is both a Catholic Church and a monastery of The Most Holy Redeemer located on Ky Dong Street.
During the arrival of the Redemptorists in Vietnam in 1925 and set up the congregation of The Most Holy Redeemer in Saigon in 1933. The mission of the redemptorists is to promote evangelization by proclaiming the Good News to the poor people, and enhancing the devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and also organizing confession every week for people in the various communities where they are living, working even spending their leisure time.
In 1963, The Congregation of The Most Holy Redeemer took over the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and formed the parish as the pilgrimage center to revere Our Lady of Perpetual Help. It is held during Saturday.
However, the number of people coming to Our Lady grew hung, so, the small church was no longer enough for containing. Thus, in 1949, the new large and modern church began to welcome pilgrims and was inaugurated on August 3, 1952.
Looking from the outside, there is nothing special, the church doesn’t posses Gothic or Romanic style nor winding like Oriental motifs. However, coming inside and sitting on the bank, the church will bring us a total peaceful feeling with the wide opening space without disturbing the eye by hung pillars. The church is so brilliant because of the clean white walls, contrasted with dark wooden banks.
The church arches gradually bent like hand in hand to pray, raising our eyes toward the statue of Christ crucified on the cross entering his passion, death and resurrection. The space of church is open with wide doors but separated with the outside space with large terrace. With this atmosphere, the attendants could feel and appreciate the cool breeze blowing blows from the yard and also have quiet space for praying. This church is an ideal to take peaceful rest in God.
Aside from resting, praying, confessing and attending the celebrations and having some devotions to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, this is also an ideal place to buy books and some pictures of our lady with cheaper price as a souvenir and remembrance for our relatives after an interesting and meaningful trip.
