Tan Dinh church

Tan Dinh church was one of the early religious buildings built in Saigon. It started in 1870 and inaugurated on December 16, 1876. This church has always been repaired and upgraded several times, but always keeps its original architecture.

This church is one of the most beautiful constructions in this city. The church architecture features Gothic style combined with Romanic and Baroque by decorative details. The church was painted by vibrant pink, and decorated with white trim. These make the built become splendid and fresh looking on the blue sky.

From the front of the church, visitors can see the main brilliant tower  conning 5 bells, weighing a total of 5.5 tons and two beautiful auxiliary towers decorated with bright lamps, and also many ventilation holes and delicate patterns, these have created the church become solid and with charm. At the top of the highest tower is the copper cross with a 3 meter height, as a symbol of the Roman Catholic Church..

The space inside the church is quite spacious with two beautiful pillars with Gothic style leading to the altar. The left column is attached by the statues of the male saints, and at the right, it is attached by the statues of the female saints. The altars of the church are made of precious stones imported from Italy and they were donated by Christian’s families.

Tan Dinh church is not only a valuable work on architecture, history, culture, it also is also a prominent place for charity work. Everyday,  this parish also serves freely over 200pax for the poor, the old and homeless people. The parish also conduct health check and treatment for the poor patients at parish clinics. Besides, the parish regularly organizes charitable activities to help the poor at other parishes in and outside the Sai Gon Diocese.
