Sa Pa Church.

Coming to Sa Pa, you will enjoy an ideal space for retreat with four season climate even in one day: spring in the morning, summer at noon, autumn in the afternoon and winter in the evening. But in the mystery of the fog, visitors also discovered an ancient stone church and has the integrity of architectural vestiges of the French after war.

This church is located in the center of Sapa tourist city, it is sited on favorable location with the Ham Rong mountain behind, a large and flat ground in front of it. Everyday, the ethnic minority people are crowded here to buy and sell goods. This place is also the location to display  the mountainous cultural  festivals, especially, the Sapa love market that takes place on Saturday nights.  With little bells on their outfits, singing, as a call to their lovers, adds to the festival’s atmosphere and became more bustling.

The architecture of the church were built in the Roman Gothic that has been shown in the roof, bell tower, arch … are the pyramid which created elegantly and silent church. Looking from the outside the church looks like an ancient monastery, the church was built by stones (walls, floors, bell towers, church yard, surrounding) are linked together by a mixture of sand, lime and molasses.

The church’s space is consisted of 7 divisions over 500 m2, the bell tower is 20m high with the bell casted in 1932, weighs 500 kg, resonates within a radius of nearly one kilometer.

The pilgrimage to Sa Pa church is also a chance for visitors to pray and encourage the faith for new Christians at Sapa parish in Hung Hoa diocese. After 60 years, it was closed because of the death of  priest Ydiart Alhor Jean in 1948 and the war destroyed it. In 2004, the parish was resurrected, Masses have been celebrated every Sunday, and in 2006 the Sapa priest officially resumed at the parish.
